Mind the gap: When getting-a-ride becomes an app behavior in China

This transformation takes place because of ride-hailing platforms running on smartphones. Didi (a.k.a. Didi Chuxing) emerges as the winner from a dozen of competing apps that all together are responsible for changing “getting a ride” from an on-street activity into a phone activity.
